This serene and stylish ceramic face brooch has a lovely shiny
glaze along with detailed painted facial make up and eyelashes. Her hat
is red leather a glued-on leather flowers. She wears a metallic thread
woven scarf.
It was the work of the ELZAC company of California. The
company operated only a short time during WWII. This piece
was probably part of their “Victim of Fashion” series. ELZAC was
best known for its fashionable “pin-up” face brooches and
whimsical animals. They used ceramic, metals, fabrics, feathers,
celluloid and lucite in their creations. One owner, Elliott Handler
and his wife, later went on to help found the Mattel Toy Company™.
This ceramic piece measures approx. 1 1/2” wide and 3 1/2” tall.
She is in pretty great condition for being close to 80 years old!
Please note the wear to the hat, the painted facial details have
some chipping, and the glaze has “crazing” due to age. None of these
things detract from the beauty of this piece. She is still a highly
collectible piece. And, the paint could be restored if desired.
She will ship in a box via USPS Priority mail with full insurance.
