Shipping Pair Hand Carved Chinese Lacquered Box Miniature Antique Trinket Boxes Inlay Chinese Trinket Box Set Miniature Jewelry Box

From a local estate collection comes these two beautiful lacquered boxes, both made in China and both with beautiful hand carved inlay work.

They date to the middle to late 1900s, most likely from the 1950s or 60s at the latest. There are two boxes which match one another.

The smaller box measures about 3 5/8” wide, 1 3/8” tall, and 2 1/2” deep.

The larger box measures about 5 1/2” wide, 2 1/2” tall, and 4” deep.

So I decided to sell the pair of these as a set, and the price listed is for both. One price: TWO boxes.

The boxes are both lacquered overboard and are relatively lightweight. The smaller of the two has a little bit of Chinese writing on the inside. On the underside of both boxes it says “made in China,” though it's hard to read it on the larger of the two.

Both of these boxes have beautiful hand carved inlay work that look like some sort of stone, probably jade and other semiprecious gemstones. They show similar scenes, both with trees and figures that seem to either be cooking or cleaning or doing some sort of ritual while wearing traditional costumes. They are quite shipping lovely and interesting. If there is a particular name or anything else it would identify this scene, I would love to hear it.

The tree on the larger box has an interesting shaped bloom or foliage that makes me think maybe they were trying to show ginkgo trees?

The small box is virtually free from any damage or repair and is in good preowned used vintage condition.

The larger box is in fair used preowned vintage condition, due to the fact that it is in “as is“ condition and is missing some of the inlay that made up the trunk of the tree. Fortunately, this damage/missing material does not really detract too much from the piece. There are also a couple little missing pieces of inlay towards the figures' feet and towards the bottom section of the box.

Both boxes show a little bit of wear on the corners as would be expected. And both of these look just fine exactly the way they are and would look great in a collection or displayed separately.
