Hand drawn family crest-1700's-rare.
Recently I've found a number of these rare & very wonderfully quirky hand drawn & hand painted ( with water color ) family crests.
They date from the 1700's & are drawn on creamy hand made chain linked paper.
A heraldic visual design is a coat of arms for an aristocratic family (or a distinguished commoner) granted from the King & was usually on a shield or banner .
The part at the top above the shield is the family crest, and that's what these charming paintings are.
The family name is at the top & the crest is painted underneath it.
This one shows an axe with stars around it.
They can be individually matted & framed (I show one in an antique frame) or combined in a mat with a few at a time which I show in my third picture. If I were having multiples matted I'd have much more space between each piece, but I can't fit that into the Etsy format without making the images themselves very tiny.
This one measures 4 by 3 & 1/8th inches (that is the entire piece of paper, not the size of the image). They shipping are not all centered, but putting them in a mat will solve that problem as they will be cropped.
They do not come with mats or frames.
This sale is for the individual family crest only.
If you purchase three at a time there is a $25 discount.
