This is a really delightful vintage porcelain wall mountable ceramic salt box with lid. Made for the French market in Portugal.
It has the word SEL on the front in bold black lettering (meaning Salt in French). It is hand painted in elaborate traditional Portuguese decorative designs in maroon brown.
Marked on the back Reel Portugal 332
This will have been a practical item in a French country kitchen, next to the hob for adding salt while cooking. A lovely display item for your own kitchen and would be a great prop for any period production.
